Looking Up
Growing Deep
Reaching Out

Pastor’s Corner

March 16, 2020

These are very different times indeed! The shutdown of much of what we see as normal, including the church’s habit of meeting together makes us wonder what God’s plan is for this time. Yesterday we met as a church in our own homes and used the media of Facebook Live to broadcast our services. They are still available at the Drenthe Christian Reformed Church Facebook page.

The fear and limited panic of the past few days (seen most clearly in the hoarding of toilet paper and long lines at the stores) is in stark contrast to Jesus’ words about not worrying about the future. Perfect love drives out fear and confidence in God’s providence allows for less anxious service to a anxious world. There are many opportunities for us to serve our communities at this time- Ottawa County has asked for volunteers to deliver food and medicine, and Love, Inc. is also looking for delivery volunteers as well.

This week at Drenthe, whether in person or online, we will study the Wednesday of Holy Week. The plot against Jesus’ life is solidified. Jesus is anointed for a burial with expensive ointment, which when Jesus approved of this annointing, Judas looked for a way to betray him. On Sunday evening we again study the gospel of Mark where Jesus turns the disciples into apostles- he sends them out in to the towns of Israel.

May God grant you peace in this strange time. Let us know in the office if there is something you need help with- at the very least we will try to find the proper resource for you.

Psalm 71

Prayer for Lifelong Protection and Help

In you, O Lord, I take refuge;
    let me never be put to shame.
In your righteousness deliver me and rescue me;
    incline your ear to me and save me.
Be to me a rock of refuge,
    a strong fortress, to save me,
    for you are my rock and my fortress.
