For dozens of years Drenthe CRC has collected non-perishable food and household items on Thanksgiving Day. The items are shared with those in need in our community and with Harvest Stand Ministries in Zeeland. For the past few years we have expanded it to a month-long event and called it “Care Mountain.” Throughout November we bring in our donations and watch the tables fill up and become a ‘mountain’ of care that can be shared!
Each week members and attendees are invited to bring a specific ‘category’ of items. We began November 4 by bringing paper goods, cleaning supplies and personal care items, such as paper towels, toilet paper, toothpaste, shampoo, soap, and laundry detergent. For November 11 people are asked to donate fruit and vegetable products. Suggested items are canned fruit and vegetables, canned tomatoes, spaghetti sauce, raisins, salsa, applesauce, jam/jelly, fruit snacks, ketchup, BBQ sauce, salad dressing, mustard, jello, cooking oil, pickles and pickle relish.
Check back each week as we post what we will be collecting for that week. Of course donations of any kind are welcome all month long to help our “Care Mountain” grow.
